“Hi, my name is Tracy Staab, and I am truly passionate about Spokane’s Municipal Court. You have entrusted me with part of Spokane’s justice system and I will remain your public servant. I am committed to providing you with the justice you seek.
I am humbled and grateful to be appointed as one of Spokane's first municipal court judges and promise to continue serving the citizens of Spokane to the best of my ability.
The vast majority of cases we hear in Municipal Court are criminal misdemeanors including domestic violence, thefts, assaults, and driving offenses such as driving under the influence (DUI). The Municipal Court also adjudicates city traffic and parking infractions. As a judge, it is my responsibility to ensure that justice is delivered fairly, with no double standards, and offenders are held accountable. Although the office of judge is generally respected, I know that I must earn your respect as well as the respect of citizens, parties, and attorneys who appear in my court. It means I must talk less and listen more, recognize the value of differing opinions, and make a conscious effort to follow the law in every case.
The new municipal court was created to provide better justice for the City of Spokane. As a municipal court judge, I am working toward the better use of existing court resources to do more with less. I am also exploring alternatives to sentencing that are not just tough on crime, but smart on crime.
In the relatively short time since the Municipal Court was created we have made incredible progress toward providing better justice.
